Many people wonder what it is like to fly in a light aircraft. I've created this part of the site for the benefit of non-flyers to explain what goes on when you go for a flight with a friend who is a private pilot, and also for friends that I fly with. There are many small airfields around the UK. I normally fly from Denham Aerodrome which is an airfield to the North West of London. You've probably heard of different aircraft types such as Pipers and Cessnas, and there is a good chance you might be flying in one of them, however a new breed of technically advanced aircraft such as the Cirrus are becoming more common. I am in the lucky position of belonging to a group called Free Flight Aviation and between us we own three Cirrus aircraft. I also have access to a Piper PA28 and Grumman GA7 Cougar through friends of mine. I even hire sometimes from Denham School of Flying and The Pilot Centre, flying schools based at Denham. So what is it like when you go for a flight? The procedures and information described here are the ones I follow. If you are going flying with a pilot friend it is likely they will follow similar ones.
