There are many light aircraft types ranging from small trainers to much bigger aircraft. I can fly quite a variety of planes now which I choose according to the trip and the number of people, and of course the plane availability.
Many people are familiar with Cessnas (which have a high wing above the cockpit). Pipers are the next most popular light aircraft and have a low wing. I don't fly Cessnas very often which is why there are none on this site! Inside the planes have a lot of similarity to a car, except they have lots more instruments. Some of the newer planes have very fancy instruments (including latest GPS and weather radar), and often have leather seats and are really rather flashy. Some of the older planes are a little less luxurious, but mechanically they are all very sound. They have seatbelts similar to a car, and hot and cold air just like a car. Unfortunately they don't have air conditioning! All the planes come equipped with a fire extinguisher and first aid kit, and they have sockets for headsets so we can talk to each other and the pilot can talk to air traffic services. None of the planes have toilets! This shouldn't be a problem for the length of your flight, but its worth remembering to "pay a visit" before departure. Most flying schools have a fleet of various aircraft. This site concentrates on the Cabair fleet and other Denham based aircraft I fly by way of example. For more information about the plane above and others on the fleet, take a look at the Aircraft Section.
